On 7 February 1980, we successfully performed a non-invasive kidney stone treatment on a human patient, for the first time ever. Our invention of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) marked a new era in stone treatment, and has changed the lives of more than 50 million patients globally.

Today, we continue to innovate and develop new ways to better support kidney stone patients. “Worst Pain Ever®”, our patient outreach initiative, was borne out of this endeavour. With more than 45 million patient and caregiver visits to date, “Worst Pain Ever” is the world’s largest online kidney stone patient community.

In celebration of World Kidney Stone Day 2022, we reached out to patients in our community, to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences. Our survey received more than 1,000 responses, and we are excited to share our findings in the 2022 Global Urology Survey report.
