Dornier MedTech introduces Compact Sigma with FarSight integrated ultrasound technology

Milan, Italy, March 26, 2008 - The new Compact Sigma FarSight has been presented to urologist from all over the world in the course of the industrial exhibition at the 23rd annual congress of the European Association of Urology (EAU) in Milan.

Compact Sigma is Dornier“s best-selling lithotripsy model in its current portfolio, which has first been introduced to the market in 2004 and since has been sold to urological centers in many countries world-wide. The Compact Sigma is a distinctive, modular shock wave system with many technologically advanced features. Features include a 140 mm electromagnetic shock wave source, a flexible over- and under-table therapy head and a motorized patient table. The Compact Sigma is ideal for all ESWL applications. In its new FarSight configuation, the Compact Sigma offers even more value in terms of treatment flexibility through an additional dimension in stone identification and targeting.

FarSight is a unique imaging system which has been developed together with BK Medical, the leader in urology ultrasound. It has been introduced as a feature of the Compact Delta II lithotriptor in 2006, and continues to be a huge success. FarSight integrated ultrasound technology allows the user to "see what you shoot", as you monitor the target along the shockwave path. Although the FarSight electronic curved array transducer is integrated into the therapy head, it does not interfere with the shockwave path. The combination of FarSight integrated ultrasound, isocentric ultrasound, and x-ray allows for "trimode imaging", and makes the Delta FarSight, and now also the Sigma FarSight, the lithotripters with the widest range of flexible imaging options available in the market today. All three imaging options can be used independently or in combination. This way, the focal area can be continously monitored to ensure precise stone targeting, which maximizes shockwave delivery and helps to minimize radiation dosage. Dornier MedTech is pleased to now offer this value-adding feature also to Compact Sigma customers.
