Special Events
Medica 2008
Düsseldorf, 19-22 November 2008
With 4,000 exhibitors and a big crowd of national and international visitors, Medica this year again was a great opportunity to observe international news in medical technology and catch up with international business partners and distributors. As a special event this year, we hosted a distributor meeting on the first day of the show. Technologies of our new products Medilas D UroBeam, AR2 and Compact Sigma FarSight were discussed in detail to make our distrubutors familiar with the technologies and help them to be successful in the international markets. Booth traffic at Dornier MedTech was exceptionally high with particularly high interest in our laser and ESWT systems, where we set the seal on several deals.
DGU 2008
60th Congress of the German Society of Urology
Stuttgart, 24 – 27 September 2008
“We´re all about people” - Dornier MedTech proudly demonstrated its company motto at this year´s DGU congress with its all new booth design. The new booth layout features photographs of our Dornier MedTech staff. As a company operating in the medical field, our number one aim is to provide solutions for doctors and patients. This “people” aspect is one of our corporate values and an essential part of our corporate identity. “As we are a technology company with a strong historic background in lithotripsy and lasers, people associate the name Dornier mainly with our ESWL and laser products. This sometimes makes it difficult to picture the people behind our products and services, so we wanted to add faces to our public appearance to show who we are – much more than a company developing and manufacturing medical technology, but also a diverse workforce dedicated to a shared goal to help our customers and their patients”, explains Michael Lerch, General Manager of Dornier MedTech Europe GmbH.

The new booth also set the suitable surrounding for our new products. The Dornier Medilas D UroBeam, our new high-power diode laser for the treatment of BHP, was introduced to the urology community. With its 940nm wavelength and 250 watts of power, UroBeam offers a very efficient solution for the minimally invasive tissue ablation treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). The over novelty at our booth was the Dornier Compact Sigma FarSight. FarSight, Dornier´s unique imaging feature that offers the user three imaging options, has been proven a reliable and efficient feature on the Dornier Compact Delta. Benefits of tri-mode imaging are now also available to Compact Sigma customers.

Another highlight was the bestowal of the Dr. Hepp Award. This prize is sponsored annually by Dornier MedTech to promote scientific innovation in Urology. This year´s Dr. Hepp award went to Dr. med. Joachim Grosse und Dr. rer. nat. Dipl. Biol. Matthias von Walter, who developed an absorbable and drug-eluting implant for intravesical treatment of the overactive bladder. We congratulate Dr. Grosse and Dr. Walter to their development and thank them for their dedication to scientific progress in Urology.

EAU 2008
23nd Congress of the European Association of Urology
Milan, 26 - 29 March 2007
The European Association of Urology (EAU) hosted its 23rd annual meeting in Italy, welcoming 9,000 delegates with wonderful sunny spring weather to the city of Milan.

One of the attractions at the Dornier MedTech booth were demonstrations on our best-selling lithotriper model, the Compact Sigma, which is now available with Dornier's proprietary Trimode Imaging technology. Trimode Imaging combines X-ray and isocentric ultrasound with Dornier's FarSight ultrasound, which is integrated in the shockwave head. FarSight allows the operator to observe the targeted stone along the shock wave path while energy is being released upon the stone. This has proven to be a valuable add-on for users of hte Compact Delta model, and is now also available on he Compact Sigma. The increased value in terms of patient safety and user friendliness of the FarSight technology is so evident, that the first Sigma FarSight system has been ordered right after product introduction during EAU, and will go to Sweden! Other novelties at Dornier included the stand-alone version of Dornier Urology Information Management System (UIMS).

We were honored by the visit of many prominent physicians at the Dornier booth. Guests included Professor Jan Dvorácek, who in the course of the congress had been awarded honorary membership of the EAU for his scientific contributions of the past decades. Professor Dvorácek has been a user of the Dornier OPUS urotable for years, and visited the Dornier booth to be updated on recent product developments.

In the course of the congress, Dornier MedTech also used the opportunity to make new ties with distributors. Medvision became new distributor of Dornier ESWL products in Belgium and Luxembourg. In France, to serve the high customer demand, Dornier MedTech France teamed up with Mepy Système. An experienced distributor in the field of ESWL and a well-known player in the French market place, Mepy Système will help us in serving our French customers in the future. We are very pleased to have won Mepy as a competent partner for this important market.

100th Congress of the Russian Society of Urology
Moscow, 6 - 8 November 2007

The Russian Society of Urology hosted their 100th congress this year in the building of the Acad emy of Science in Moscow. Apart from taking part in the industrial show, two special events highlighted Dornier MedTech´s participation in the congress this year. Dornier was happy to present the Wolfgang Hepp Prize to Professor Lopatkin, President of the Russian Society of Urology. The Hepp Price is an annual award sponsored by Dornier Med Tech, which has been presented to Professor Lopatkin in recognition of his achievements for urology, and lithotripsy in particular, in Russia. In order to celebrate this tribute in an appropriate setting, Dornier invited the country´s leading urologists to a festive r eception in honor of Professor Lopatkin (center).
Dornier also had the pleasure to be distinguished as a company making a difference to Urology in Russia. We were proud to receive a certificate acknowledging Dornier MedTech´s contribution to urology, issued by the Russian Society of Urology, and accepted by Thomas Riha, Director of Dornier´s Moscow office on behalf of the company. This is the first time a medical company has been assigned a reward by the Society for their contributions. Dornier is actively participating in the Russian urology community since 1986. DGU 2007
59th Congress of the German Society of Urology
Berlin, 26 – 29 September 2007

This year´s motto of Dornier´s participation in the DGU was “Parthership in Urology” to celebrate our new cooperation with Gyrus ACMI in Germany. With a distribution agreement made in April this year, Dornier MedTech Europe has been granted the exclusive right to distribute Gyrus ACMI endo-urology products in Germany. So for the first time, DGU visitors not only had a chance to catch up with the newest developments at Dornier, but were also invited to have a look at Gyrus ACMI´s endoscopy products and PK SuperPulse Plasmakinetic resection technology that now round up Dornier´s Urology portfolio.

As one highlight, visitors had the opportunity to play with Gyrus ACMI´s digital ureterosrenoscope DUR-D and even test its laser protection technology. When used with the Dornier lithotripsy laser Medilas H20, the endoscope detects when the laser fiber is inside the shaft and the laser is automatically interrupted to protect the DUR-D from laser damage. As the DUR-D is the world´s first chip-on-the-tip ureterorenoscope, we were very proud to display this novelty at our booth, and by means of the scope protection system in combination with the Dornier Medilas H20, demonstrate innovation in Urology fostered by this strong partnership.
