Dornier MedTech unveils its new innovative Compact Sigma lithotripter
during the 55th annual Kongress der Deutschen Gessellschaft fur Urologie

WESSLING, GERMANY – SEPTEMBER 26, 2003 – As the inventor of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), Dornier MedTech continues to add to its technologically advanced medical device portfolio with the introduction of its Compact Sigma lithotripter on September 26 during the 55th annual Kongress der Deutschen Gessellschaft fur Urologie in Hamburg, Germany.

Now available for purchase in the European and Asian markets, the user-friendly Compact Sigma is a highly unique, modular, shock wave system – an important component for any comprehensive urologic workstation. The lithotripter comes fitted with many advanced features, including a 140 mm electromagnetic shock wave source, a flexible over- and under-table therapy head and the motorized Dornier Relax+ patient table.

The Compact Sigma is ideally suited for all ESWL applications – and consistently demonstrates an excellent stone-breaking ability, without the consumable costs of spark gap technology and space considerations of older, larger lithotripters. The Compact Sigma can also be used to treat tendonitis and tendonopathies.

“ This combination of features and capabilities will continue to drive Dornier’s leadership role in the global marketplace,” says Ho Sing, CEO.

“A key benefit of the Compact Sigma is its modular flexibility,” says Dornier’s head of international marketing, Brian Walsh. “We are encouraging users to add ultrasound, X-ray imaging and an endoscopic tower, as well as holmium and diodes lasers, to create a full-service urologic workstation made up of a combination of best in class components.”

The Compact Sigma is designed to couple mechanically with standard surgical C-arms.

“ The Compact Sigma’s quick, precise mechanical coupling eliminates clumsy, time-consuming delays,” adds Walsh. “And optical coupling can also be accomplished.”

Patient positioning is simple using the Relax+ table, which comes equipped with three exchangeable mid-sections and holds patients weighing up to 400 pounds. The light-weight, radiolucent table provides zero-bladder cut-off and features slow and fast table tilting. With its sleek, ergonomic design and small footprint, the Compact Sigma is economical and fits nicely in any clinical setting or physician’s office.

Dornier MedTech is a privately held company headquartered in Munich, Germany. Specializing in lithotripters, urotables, orthopedic shock wave devices and medical-aesthetic lasers, Dornier has operating units and service partners throughout the world.
